Dropping Off Students: School classes begin at 8:00 but students should be in their classrooms by 7:55. Student buses start arriving at 7:40 and no other students that are being dropped off by parents should be arriving at school before this time as there is no staff to supervise them.
NO PARKING Area: Parents are also asked to be mindful of the "No Parking" area by the wheelchair ramp in front of the school. This is a "Drop and go" area only. If you need to exit your vehicle to help your child get out, please park in a parking space to allow other drivers easy access to the school.
Items dropped off for students: If your child forgets something at home and you wish to drop it off, please leave it at the office with the Administrative Assistant. After classes have begun for the day, we limit disruptions to the classrooms as much as possible.
Bussed students: We just want to remind parents that students under the age of 8 years old will not be dropped off at bus stops without a parent or guardian to greet them unless a note is written and signed by same giving the bus driver permission to do otherwise. This has been a policy with the School Board for a number of years.
Breakfast and Snacks: ACES does have a breakfast program and snacks for students without. Now in saying that, we do expect for parents who can afford to do so, provide breakfast, snacks and adequate lunches for their children as the school fell considerably short of funds in previous years in trying to keep up with costs of bridging the gap. If you are short of money for food, please keep in mind that the Hubbards area does have a very supportive food bank, the school can also give some assistance in certain cases. Keep our students safe, PLEASE REMEMBER that ACES is:
-Nut-Safe School - Some students have an anaphylactic allergy to peanuts and/or nut allergies, therefore we attempt to keep the whole school nut free. This also includes such ingredients as peanut oil, almond extract, etc. Please discuss this with your child so that they do not bring any food containing peanuts or other nuts to school.
-Pea and Lentil Safe School - We have a student with an anaphylactic allergy to these food items. Please make sure that no peas are included in snacks (that includes dried ones and chips that are made from dried peas) and check the ingredients labels on soup and salad items as well as other obvious foods that these items can be contained in.
-Immuno Suppression - Please inform the school or your child’s teacher if your child has been exposed to, or has contracted any virus or infection such as chicken pox, impetego, strep throat, pneumonia, pink eye, etc. We will have new students attending this year who are highly susceptible to infection due to immuno suppression.
-Scent-Sensitive School - We ask for your co-operation in making Aspotogan Consolidated a scent-reduced building. There are many students, staff members, and parents who are affected adversely by scented products. These products can cause ill effects such as nausea, irritation of the eyes, breathing problems, asthma, and/or lack of concentration. Medical research bears this out. Some students do not realize they have allergies which affect their concentration span, thereby hindering their progress in school. Please help us build a healthy school environment by refraining from wearing scented products of any kind when entering ACES (with the possible exception of a mildly-scented pesticide-free bug lotion).
ATTENDANCE: This is very important for school students. It is known that students who miss a lot of school time or are chronically late for school tend to be affected in some way. Here at ACES we want students to come to school every day unless there is a good reason for being absent. Student attendance is put into their file every day, and if they are not able to attend for whatever reason, parents are expected to call the school.
Volunteers: Volunteers play a very big role in the community and school environments and we are always in need of help here at the school level. If you like to work with children and would like to become a volunteer for our school for such things as book fair, class trips, reading with students, etc. make sure you contact the school for the paperwork that needs to be completed to start the process.
